Emergency Notification Alerts

Now Available to You Through Elwood Community Schools

 

In our ongoing effort to quickly and directly share important information with the parents, patrons and staff, Elwood Community Schools will now notify you of school emergencies, delays, closings, etc. via a text message to your cell phone. As a subscriber to the emergency notification alert system, you will receive important messages concerning the school(s) which you elect and severe weather and other major warnings sent by NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) for the area covered by the zip code that you enter. The program cost of 99 cents per month will be charged directly to your wireless bill or deducted from your prepaid account. This service is not pro-rated for mid-month cancellations.

 

How to sign up for alerts:

 

1.    Use the internet!

    • Log on to the www.FirstAlertText.com website.
    • Click on the ‘Sign Up for Alerts’ link and following the instructions.
    • A PIN code is automatically sent as a text message to your cell phone. When received, go to the www.FirstAlertText.com home page, click on the link ‘Enter PIN Code’, and put in the information to complete the program activation
    • Changes and additions can be made by returning and clicking on ’Profile Login’ at any time.

2.    Use your cell phone!

A.        Simply create this text message: FAST 46036 FAST (followed by a blank space) 46036

B.         Send the message to 47733

C.         You’ll receive a message from the text alert service.

D.        Reply with a “Y” for Yes.

E.         Text the word “SCHOOL” followed by the school number from which you want to receive messages (for example, “SCHOOL 31604”) to 47733 to register.

Other Program Information/Requirements:

  • Your phone must have text messaging enabled. (Standard text messaging and other rates through your service provider may apply.)
  • You must be the owner of the device and either sixteen years old or have the permission of your parent or guardian.
  • You may stop this service at any time by texting the message “STOP”, “END” or “QUIT” to 47733 or by using our Customer Service form on the website.
  • In case of questions, text message “HELP” to 47733 or contact customer service at 1-866-387-5251.
